~After Julita's and Marie's private classes, they gathered in the lobby area, for the learners to write down their Christmas messages.



Y - Hmm. What should I write?
J - Well, anything from the reasons why you like Christmas, your wishes for yourself, your family and, to the world.)
(Yumi thought about her wish, and then began writing it)
L2 - How about you, Ms. Marie, do you have any other suggestions?
M - You can also define the real essence of Christmas, such as, "It's the season of giving".
L2 - It's quite difficult, but I'll give it a try.
(Sae writes her message)
Yumi and Sae - We're finished.
J - Now, please hook it on the Christmas tree for everyone to see.
(Yumi and Sae hooked theirs respectively)
Y - There you go. (reads other learners' messages) This one says "I wish for everyone's happiness," and here, "Peace to
the world". I feel a little selfish. I only wished for myself.
M - You don't have to. Christmas is the perfect time to do so.
J - Besides, you aren't alone. Look here, "I wish Santa would visit me," then another, "I wish I'd be able to speak English
fluently."
(Sae keeps on counting)
M - Ms. Sae, what are you doing?
S - I'm counting how many people wished for eating a delicious shortcake and roasted chicken this Christmas.


●Useful and humorous expressions



★You can also
Youが主語に来て「あなたができる」という事ですが、後に来るものを指
して～してもいいですよ、というニュアンスを現しています。
E.g.　You can also wear something red or green in the Christmas
　　　party.
　　　クリスマスパーティでは、なにか赤か緑のものを着てもいいですね。　　　

★such as
何か例をあげるときに使う表現。for example
E.g. Japanese cartoon characters, such as Pokemon and Doraemon are
　　 very popular with kids in the world.
　　 ポケモンとかドラえもんなどの日本の漫画のキャラクターは世界中の
　　子どもに人気があります。

★It's quite difficult
quiteはveryと同じように使われますが、「かなり」という感じで「非常
に」というところまでは行かないニュアンスで使われます。
E.g. How do you find the test?
It's quite difficult.
　　 テストどうでした。
　 　かなり＊＊＊難しかった（--難しい）です。

★I'll give it a try
ためしに使う、やる、味わうなどとして使う。
E.g. I've never sung a song without music, but I'll give it a try.
　 　伴奏無しで歌った事は無いですが、やってみます。


◆「よくあることば（願い）」

登場人物： J - ジュリータ; M - マリー; Y -ユミ; S - サエ
~ジュリータとマリーのプライベートレッスンの後、ラーナーたちがクリスマスメッセージを書くためにロビーに集まった。

Y:　うーん。何を書いたらいいのかしら。
J:　そうですね。何でもいいですよ。どうしてクリスマスが好きなのか、
　　その理由とか、あなた自身や家族、世界などに対する願いとか。
(ユミはちょっと願いを考えて、書いた）
S:　マリーあなたはどう。なにか他のアドバイスありますか？
M:　クリスマスの一番大切な本質を定義することもできますよね、例えば「分け与える季節」とか。
S:　それってかなり難しいですね。でも考えてみるわ。
サエが書く）
YとS:　できたわ。
J:　みんなが見られるようにクリスマスツリーに吊り下げてください。
(ユミとサエがそれぞれ吊るす）
Y:　さあできました。（他のラーナーのメッセージを読む）この人のは「みんなが幸せになりますように」で、これは「世界に平和を」だって。
　　なんか私、自己中な感じ。自分の事しかお願いしなかった。
M:　別にそんな事感じなくてもいいですよ。クリスマスは自分のお願いをする絶好のチャンスなんですから。
J:　それにあなただけじゃないわ。これ見て。「サンタが私のところに来ますように。」そしてこちらが「英語がスラスラ話せますように。」
(サエが数え続けている）
M:　サエさん。なにをしてるの。
S:　何人の人がこのクリスマスにおいしいショートケーキかローストチキンを食べる事をお願いしているか数えてるのよ。

"Let’s go Dutch" is the second clip of our listening exercise videos. The conversation happens during one of DCEC’s company lessons which Diana handles.Diana is explaining an expression to her three learners, Mr. Kobayashi, Mr. Tanaka and Mr. Yamamoto.

"Let's go Dutch"
D-Diana, K-Kobayasi, T-Tanaka, Y-Yamamoto
(during a company lesson)

D: (explaining) ... Let's go Dutch means to share the cost of a meal or pay for your own meal in a restaurant. Australians usually say "It's my shout" when they want to treat you. In America and Canada, they simply say "It's on me". How about here in Japan?
What is your practice?
K: When in a group, the older ones usually treat the younger ones.
D: So, in your group, who usually pays the bill?
K&T:(pointing at Mr.Yamamoto) It's Mr.Yamamoto!
(Everybody laughs)
D: Even with your female friends?
T: Ahh... we definitely pay for their meals.
D: Hmmm... you are very gentleman. So, if younger ones are lucky,
women are even luckier!
(Everybody laughs again)




●Useful & Humorous expression

★Let's go Dutch

ダイアログの中での説明のように、割り勘にする、もしくは自分の勘定をそれぞれが払うというときにこのような表現をします。

Ex.I'd prefer to go Dutch on our evening out.
飲み会は割り勘のが僕はいいな。

★It's my shout

これは、オーストラリアやイギリスでの表現で、グループで飲んでいる時に、順番に1人が皆の分の飲物を買うのですが、今度は自分の番だという時に言うインフォーマルな表現です。　

Ex.What are you drinking. It's my shout.
何飲んでるんだ。今度は俺のおごりだよ。

★treat

口頭での表現で my treat というと私のおごりということを意味します。
Ex.Let's go out for dinner - my treat this time.
　 今度は僕のおごりだからディナーに行こう。

★pay for～

～の代金を支払う、という事。

Ex.Let me pay for dinner this time.
今度は食事代、私に払わせてよ。
今回は、タイトルが"Let's go Dutch"ですが、だれか私に言ってくれないかな、という願望が２つめからの例文に集まってしまいました。

だれか素敵なディナーに誘ってくれないかな・・・。


◆「割り勘」

登場人物：D-ダイアナ、K-小林、T-田中、Y-山本
(カンパニーレッスンの最中)

D: (説明している)...レッツ・ゴー・ダッチというのは割り勘にする、とか自分の食べた分を自分で払うということです。オーストラリア人は、人におごりたいとき「イッツ・マイ・シャウト」と言います。アメリカ　 やカナダでは、単に「イッツ・オン・ミー」と言います。日本ではどう？
　 日本での皆さんの慣習は何かしら？
K: グループのときは、たいてい年上の人が若い人におごるかな。
D: それじゃあ、あなたのグループではふつう誰がお金を払うの？
K&T：(山本さんを指して): 山本さんです！
(皆笑う）
D: 女性の友達と一緒の時も(年上の人が払うの)？
T:ああ、そりゃあもちろん僕たちが払いますよ。
D:へえー、あなた達はとってもジェントルマンなのね。それじゃ、若い人がラッキーなら、女性はさらにラッキーってことね！
(また皆で笑う）

B:Mr. Noboru is a businessman, so he prefers suits.Later on,

we'll proceed to the 4th floor.

N:Never mind.I don't shop for myself.My wife does all the work.

B:Oh, is that so?What do you buy for yourself then?

N:My lunch.Don't worry, I'm ***enjoying just by looking at the

displays.

B:Okay.

J:Bags, anyone?We have leather, fur and vinyl.Ms. Sachiko, you can

add this one to your collection.

S:You betcha!

M:I thought you're a fastidious type, when it comes to fashion.

S:Not at all.I actually like shopping, and do it, say twice a week.

Perhaps you can even tag me as a shopaholic.

M:My!I wish I could do that.

S:It’s easy.Save on daily expenses, such as food, transportation

and utilities.Then, you'll haveenough money for shopping.

M:Thanks for the tip.I'll try that starting today.

B:Everyone, it's dinner time!

M:(to Ms. Sachiko)Or perhaps tomorrow.





●Useful and humorous expressions


★shopaholic

　買い物中毒。

-aholicを何かにつけて～中毒と言う表現で、少し前に日本人は

workaholicと言われていましたよね。

E.g. That Russian ballerina is a chocaholic.

（あのロシア人のバレリーナはチョコレート中毒だよ。）



★browse

お店などをぶらぶら見て歩くこと。最近はインターネットで情報を探す

　時にも使いますよね。

E.g. I enjoy browsing in Lumine.

（私はルミネをぶらぶら見て楽しむ。）



★You betcha!

betcha　は　bet you　の短くした形で、誰かが言った事が正しいと言

　う時に使う表現。

E.g.So you're going to be there tonight?

You betcha.

（「じゃあ今夜そこに行くんだ。」

　　　「その通り。」）



★tag me as a shop-aholic

tag　は値札などのことで　tag me　でレッテルを貼る、そのように見

　なすと言うこと。

E.g.Because I'm a sensitive man, she tags me as a crybaby.

（僕は感受性が高いだけなのに彼女は泣き虫っていうんだ。）





◆「買い物中毒」


　登場人物：ジュリーターJ、ブレセッドーB、

　　　　　　生徒たち

　　　　　　トシーT、メグミーM、ノボルーN、サチコーS



　～教室から飛び出して外で行うレッスンを2クラス合同で行った



J：ルミネの男性、女性ファッションのフロアに着いたわよ。さあ、秋物

を買うふりをしながらウインドーショッピングしましょう。

（ちょっと歩いて）見て！５０％オフよ。

M：やった！私、絶対すぐにまた来るわ。

S：あれかわいい！でも、私の好みじゃないわ。

B：Mr.トシ。あなたはどう。誰か特別な人にプレゼント選んだ？

T：彼女はいつもダークカラーが好きだから、これはあまり好きじゃない

と思うな。

J:じゃあ、上の階に行きましょう。そこにもいろいろありますよ。

（エスカレーターで）

B:ノボルさんはビジネスマンだからスーツが好きですね。あとで４階に

　行きましょう。

N:気にしなくていいよ。いつも自分で買わないから。家内がぜんぶ買っ

　てくれるんだ。

B:へーそうなんですか。じゃあ自分では自分のものをなに買うんですか。

N:お昼ご飯は自分で買うよ。大丈夫。心配しないでもディスプレイ見て

　楽しんでるから。

B:わかりました。

J:だれかバッグ見る。革に毛皮に人工皮革もあるわ。サチコさん。これ

　なんかあなたのコレクションにどう。

S：ぴったりね。

M：私あなたのファッションの好みは難しいのかと思ってたわ。

S：そんなこと無いわよ。実際ショッピングが好きだし、よくするわ。そ

うね、週２回ぐらい。もしかしたら買い物中毒っていえるかも。

M：まー。私もそうしたいわ。

S：簡単よ。毎日の食費や交通費、光熱費なんかを節約すれば。そうした

　ら買い物をする十分なお金ができるわ。

M：いいこと教えてくれてありがとう。今日からそれやってみよう。

B：みんな、ディナーの時間よ。

M:（サチコに）やっぱり明日からにするわ。

ドイツの放送局ZDF-Frontal21が、日本の原発事故への政府や知事の対応のひどさを放送しています。
なんと福島県知事佐藤雄平は病院に対し、福島県民の放射能被爆調査を拒否するように指示していたというのです。
また、TBSラジオの番組でも
「福島児童に20ミリシーベルトを許容するように」と国に迫ったのは、なんと佐藤雄平福島県知事本人であると取材に当たった記者が報告しています。

県民を守るべき立場の知事が、逆に県民を被爆させている。これが今の日本の現実だとしたらなにを信じていったらいいのでしょうか？
